After golf polo shirts, we embroider logos onto more caps than anything else. Baseball style caps are a very popular item for embroidery. After all, they make a great place to show off your logo and promote your brand.
But caps can create some challenges when it comes to logo embroidery. The biggest challenge for putting embroidered logos onto caps is the available space to put a logo.
On a cap, there is only about two inches of vertical space to put a logo. That limits the amount of space to embroider a logo. If a logo is more vertical than horizontal or one that is in the shape of a circle, it may require more than 2” of vertical space to recreate it properly.
Sometimes we can shrink a logo to fit into that space. Sometimes we can’t without affecting other elements of the logo that may no longer be big enough to embroider cleanly.
Good clean logo embroidery is all about the size of the elements. If elements like details or text are too small, they will not look good in embroidery.
There are times when we have to tell a customer that their logo will not work well on the front of a cap. Nearly 100% of those times it is because the logo is too tall and shrinking it down to fit into that space would render some of the logo elements unembroiderable.
We can usually find a compromise, but sometimes that requires an alteration of the logo-albeit a minor one. One of our goals is to not compromise the integrity of the logo or brand when we have to make alterations to it for embroidery. That can usually be done without doing anything to drastic.
In terms of horizontal space, there is generally more than enough for most logos. Technically there is about 5 inches of horizontal space on the front of a cap. I honestly have never seen a logo that has presented a horizontal space challenge for a cap.
The opportunities are the additional locations for embroidery. The backs and the sides are great places for additional logos, taglines, trademarks and url addresses. Again, the amount of space available for that information in locations is limited, but they can be very effective in promoting your brand.
